The
Project
The 5.25-acre
site was originally purchased in back in March 2000
as an investment with a long-term view towards creating
a tailor made, modern and state of the art motor park
facility at the gateway to the expanding Wiltshire county
town of Trowbridge.
The design
brief was to create an aesthetically pleasing visual
landmark whilst incorporating the latest technologies,
facilities and practicalities required for a group of
dealerships. It was also important to create a modern
and relaxed environment where customers can experience
the extensive choice of product ranges and services
offered by the Vauxhall, Toyota, Nissan and Renault
brands.
Another important
aspect of the site was to design enough “space”
and “room” into the overall site plan –
an important factor for vehicle display and customer
parking areas. The dealerships were also to be positioned
in a way that was complimentary to one another and placed
in context by a visually pleasing landscape scheme.
A specific
project commitment was also given in terms of encompassing
energy efficient and environmentally friendly features
into the overall concept of the development. This important
theme has a natural synergy with many of the vehicles
that will be offered from the site, where the Vauxhall,
Toyota, Renault and Nissan brands are constantly developing
improvements to the economy and recyclability of conventional
cars, and exploring new technologies such as dual fuel
and other alternatives to petrol and diesel engines.
In
summary, the development had to be representative of
the motor industry in this new century and mirror the
giant steps forward made by vehicle manufacturers in
terms of customer care, technology, safety, stylings
and the environment.
