Paris. The new Vauxhall Insignia Sports Tourer raises the bar for premium design in the mid-size estate sector, combining the elegance of its hatch and saloon siblings with an even higher degree of practicality and versatility. Two new engines for the entire Insignia range also make their world premiere at the Paris Motor Show (October 4 - 19). The innovative 2.0-litre BiTurbo diesel with cleantech combustion system has 190PS, and the down-sized 1.6-litre petrol turbo engine produces 180PS. # The Insignia Sports Tourer offers the same state-of-the-art technology as the Insignia, including Vauxhall’s Front Camera System, Intelligent AFL headlamps, Adaptive 4x4 all-wheel-drive and the FlexRide chassis. This is complemented by estate-specific equipment such as a power tailgate with programmable opening height, a self-levelling system and the FlexOrganizer cargo management system. The completely flat luggage compartment has a capacity of 540 to 1,510 litres. With a CD of just below 0.30, the Insignia Sports Tourer is the most aerodynamic estate Vauxhall has ever built.
Sporty design and spectacular aerodynamics for class The result is a dynamic, sporty station wagon that elegantly conceals its high utility value. To achieve this, the designers re-interpreted a number of elements. They pulled the “wraparound” tailgate far into the flanks and accentuated it with large, distinctive, fully integrated tail lights. The chrome strip holding the prominent Vauxhall Griffin logo gives the car a note of added confidence. The rear sweeps down into a rounded bumper, emphasising the aerodynamic framework that underpins the car’s design. The roof spoiler has the same effect, elongating the dynamic sloping roofline that is accentuated by roof rails and thus helping to ensure that the Insignia saloon’s sporty proportions are retained in the Sports Tourer. Also, the air is guided longer along the roof reducing the drag. Two vertical fins that bridge the roof spoiler and the rear lights have the same effect. The air flow is sharply cut off which also reduces rear end lift. As with the Insignia saloon, GM Europe’s engineers fine-tuned the subtlest details to ensure excellent aerodynamic performance. These included rounding the front bumper corners and adding a flexible spoiler lip to its bottom end, giving the A-pillar a rounder shape, changing the exterior mirror to a wing form, and profiling the lower control arm in the rear suspension. Two underbody spoilers direct air over the rear axle to reduce drag and lift even more, while the three front air inlets have been optimised for efficiency. With a CD of just below 0.30, the Insignia Sports Tourer is the most aerodynamic estate Vauxhall has ever built. With a drag of 0.69 m², it is better than many smaller cars. Interior: ample space and added practicality with FlexOrganizer system Standard on the Sports Tourer are an automatic levelling system and power tailgate-closing support, which pulls the tailgate into the lock near the end of its travel. Also available is a tailgate that can be electrically opened and closed and features a programmable opening height that helps prevent damage to the tailgate even in garages with low ceilings. Vauxhall’s familiar FlexOrganizer system separates and secures cargo loads via a flexible system of nets and foldaway dividers that can be fixed to two horizontal rails running along each side of the load area. With the new Sports Tourer comes a new seat material that is an automotive industry first. It uses “TopTec” nano-technology to help textile upholstery resist staining and prevent liquids from penetrating it, therefore is up to 50 per cent easier to clean than conventional upholstery. TopTec material, available with the beige interior, is as breathable as conventional material and makes it easier for families with small children to choose interior trim with friendly, light-coloured upholstery. Vauxhall’s ‘Affordable technology’ carried forward to Sports Tourer Vauxhall’s Front Camera System, which reads and memorises traffic signs and warns drivers when they unintentionally veer out of their lane, also increases safety in the Insignia Sports Tourer. Other innovative features are the new-generation intelligent AFL headlamps that adjust to prevailing traffic conditions with nine different lighting functions and the orthopaedic Ergonomic Sport Seats that are offered at a very competitive price. Vauxhall Insignia Sports Tourer prices start from £17,185 on the road. Paris. The new Insignia ecoFLEX, debuting at the Paris Motor Show (October 4 - 19), offers environmentally friendly driving without compromise. In contrast to many other competitors, it is not a low-end model, but rather combines powerful propulsion and driving fun with highest efficiency. Vauxhall’s newest ecoFLEX model features a powerful single turbo-diesel with 2.0-litre displacement and output of 160PS. “We designed the Insignia as a particularly efficient car from the beginning. By making a multitude of detailed improvements to the powertrain and to the road and wind resistance factors of the ecoFLEX model, our engineers are able to minimise fuel consumption without affecting driving fun,” says Hans Demant, Vice President of Global Engineering at General Motors Europe. “Though we are still developing the new Insignia ecoFLEX with the 2.0 CDTi ECOTEC engine, we are confident it will emit CO2 gases well below 140 g/km.” Compared to competitors’ cars with similar fuel consumption, it is clear why the Vauxhall Insignia ecoFLEX watchwords are economy without compromise. The Insignia ecoFLEX sprints from zero to 62mph in 9.5 seconds and reaches a top speed of up to 135mph. Ensuring excellent pulling power even at low rpm, the maximum torque of 350Nm is available from 1750rpm, and can be temporarily increased for 15 seconds to 380Nm via an ‘overboost’ function. The new 2.0-litre common-rail four-cylinder unit uses the innovative Clean-Tech process to ensure the lowest possible emissions are precisely maintained over its life span. This controls combustion via an electronic closed-loop system, adapting fuel injection to combustion development in real time. Piezo-resistive cylinder pressure sensors integrated in the glow plugs are used to measure combustion pressures as high as 180 bar in each individual cylinder up to one million times per minute, within an accuracy of ninety-eight percent. The data is sent to the central engine control system, which adjusts the volume and timing of the fuel injections accordingly. This closed loop system ensures the engine always operates with optimum efficiency and minimal exhaust emissions. Over the entire lifecycle of the Insignia, it compensates for wear factors such as inaccuracies in the fuel metering, component tolerances, varying fuel qualities and operating conditions. Other factors contributing to the low consumption and emission figures include the 10 mm lower body to reduce the car’s frontal area, and the fitting of low-resistance Primacy HP tyres from Michelin. Like all Insignia models, the new ecoFLEX variant is Euro 5 certified and will be available as a hatchback and saloon in the second half of 2009 with prices announced closer to the launch. Further improved aerodynamics The aerodynamics experts at GME optimised the Insignia ecoFLEX in many areas using traditional methods like adding panelling under the tank in front of the rear axle, which improves drag coefficient and increases downforce. They also partially closed the radiator grille to send more head-wind around the body for better aerodynamics. The exterior mirror is a good example of the Insignia’s aerodynamic excellence: compared to its predecessor, the Insignia’s wing-shaped exterior mirrors create 45 per cent less aerodynamic drag. During numerous computer simulations and more than 650 hours in the wind tunnel, numerous other details were fine-tuned for even better aerodynamic performance, including:
In the process, many of these modifications also benefited the Insignia’s aero-acoustics, resulting in an interior cabin that is quieter than any Vauxhall before. Engineers already focused on noise reduction during initial development, adopting a new method at this early stage: a completed 1:1 scale clay model was used for noise measurement. The new Insignia also has additional door sealing compared to past models. The side windows’ thickness was increased to 4.85 mm, further contributing to the low noise level in the interior compartment

As the credit crunch bites, and fuel bills hit record highs, environmental concerns and cost efficiency have become more important to fleet decision makers and drivers than ever. With this in mind, Vauxhall are helping customers reduce their carbon footprint by adding more ecoFLEX models to their fleet range, as popularity for these eco-friendly editions increases. New Astra ecoFLEX Joining this exciting line up are the new Astra Estate, Sports Hatch and 5-door hatch 1.7CDTi 16v ecoFLEX models, available in a variety of trims. With CO2 emissions of only 119g/km, these ecoFLEX models fall within the lowest, 13%, diesel band for Benefit-in-Kind (BiK) tax – and with an estimated combined fuel consumption of 62.8mpg, these all new Astras tick both tax and cost efficiency boxes, from just £16,340 on the road. Upholding the tradition of making low emission models widely available across the range, the new Astra models feature a 1.7 litre, 110PS common rail turbo diesel engine with 6 speed transmission, diesel particulate filter and lowered chassis, with the Life (air conditioned) ecoFLEX model featuring Low rolling resistance tyres on existing 15 inch wheels. What's more, there are significant benefits when it comes to Vehicle Excise Duty – Astra ecoFLEX's CO2 emissions of 119g/km put it squarely into Band B – thereby qualifying for the Government's second lowest tax disc rate of just £35 per annum. Corsa and Agila Capital Allowances For more information on Astra ecoFLEX or any other model please contact you nearest Platinum Vauxhall dealership – Trowbridge – Chippenham – Frome. Vauxhall Astra Gets Greener With New Ecoflex Model
Luton. Vauxhall has launched its first Astra ecoFLEX with a 1.7 turbo-diesel engine producing CO2 emissions of just 119g/km and fuel consumption of 62.8mpg on the combined cycle. The new model, which will be available in Hatch, Sport Hatch and estate guises, falls into the lowest BIK tax band for company car drivers, while private buyers will only pay £35 per year in Vehicle Excise Duty thanks to its band B credentials. But the Astra 1.7 CDTi ecoFLEX has not sacrificed driver involvement to go green. Its engine produces 110PS, an increase of 10PS over the existing Astra 1.7 CDTi, and 260Nm of torque at 2000rpm, enough to power the ecoFLEX to a top speed of 117mph. Vauxhall’s engineers have achieved extra efficiency from the Astra’s 1.7 CDTi drivetrain by fitting a taller axle ratio, optimising the engine management system and reducing the engine’s idle speed. In addition, ecoFLEX’s kerbweight has been reduced by 30kgs, while aerodynamics have been improved by lowering the suspension, modifying the front air intakes and fitting a drag-reducing lower engine compartment panel. Engineers also reduced the power steering pump’s idle speed and fitted low rolling-resistance, 15-inch tyres (16-inch optional). Hans Demant, GME’s Engineering Vice President, summed up Vauxhall’s commitment to further reducing fuel consumption and emissions in cars with conventional internal combustion engines: “At General Motors Europe, environmental consciousness means offering clever technological innovations at affordable prices, making them accessible to as many customers as possible. The Astra ecoFLEX is the newest example of our strategy and directly addresses the needs of buyers in high-volume sectors.” In 2009, Vauxhall will introduce two further ecoFLEX models: a 109g/km Corsa 1.3 CDTi with combined mpg of nearly 69mpg, and a low-emissions version of the Insignia which is set to make a stir in the mid-size sector.
Vauxhall Insignia Has Best Seats In Town According To Experts
The Vauxhall Insignia’s seats have the car industry’s widest adjustment ranges, allowing all drivers and passengers to find their ideal seating position. With a height-adjustment range of 65 millimetres and a length-adjustment range of 270 millimetres, the Insignia’s seats use the most up-to-date technology to create new levels of comfort and safety in this class. In addition, the Ergonomic Sports Seats have improved tilt adjustment, 4-way power lumbar support, and ergonomic seat contours, including superior side support. Acknowledging this achievement, Aktion Gesunder Rücken e.V (AGR), an independent panel of ergonomics experts and doctors in Germany, has awarded the Insignia’s Sport seats its coveted seal of approval. The AGR seal is a guarantee of quality only awarded to ergonomic products that comply with strict medical requirements; in this case the Insignia’s seats effectively prevent the back pain and tension suffered by some occupants on car journeys. AGR was also impressed by the Ergonomic Sport Seat’s thigh support, which features a cushion that can be extended by up to 60 millimetres for taller drivers. Complementing this is optional power adjustment with memory and fan ventilation. “Everyone, small and large, will find our seats safe and comfortable because they can adjust the height and length of the seats to their own body,” says Andrew Leuchtmann, Engineering Group Manager of Seats. Active head restraints prevent whiplash Stronger seats for greater protection To ensure that the seat stays locked in place if struck from behind by a heavy object, the seat mounting rails have a secure adjustment with spring-loaded pins, providing a permanent locking track so that regardless of where the seat is positioned, it is securely locked in place. 30/07/08

Vauxhall Vivaro Suits Multi-Skilled Maintenance Men Leading South East building maintenance company Booker & Best has added a further three Vivaros to the 90 Vauxhalls that already make up half of their van fleet. The St Leonards-on-Sea company finds the Vivaro well-suited to the needs of the electricians, mechanical engineers and other specialist tradesmen who make up their multi-skilled teams carrying out building maintenance and refurbishment across Kent, Sussex and South London. Good loadspace, a comfortable drive, reliability and long service intervals are quoted as the main reasons for choosing Vivaro, according to Transport Manager, Laurie Beetham. “Our staff like them because they’re comfortable to ride in and easy to drive,” he says. “And I like them because they’re rarely in the workshop and when they are they’re simple to fix with good parts supply from our local Vauxhall dealer, St Leonards Motors. “The Vivaro really suits our needs for a van of this size. It’s stylish and presents a good image of our business. We take the 2900 long-wheelbase model, which has a low loading height and ample space to carry tools, equipment and most of the materials needed for jobs. When they arrive from the factory they’re ply-lined and with a bulkhead fitted so that we simply have to put our lettering on, fit ladder racks and a tracking device and they’re ready for work. “We still run a few on ’54 plates, which continue to perform well and which should achieve a good residual value because of the inherent reliability of the Vivaro and the good care we take of them. All routine servicing, along with any mechanical or body repairs, is carried out in our own large and well-equipped workshop at St Leonards.” Booker & Best needs to ensure that its staff arrive at jobs relaxed and able to get on with the task. So the driver and passenger comfort and safety features of the Vivaro are very important. The driver’s seat is multi-adjustable and there’s a comfortable dual passenger seat. All controls and instruments are easy to reach and read, including the neat fascia mounted gear lever. The powerful heating and ventilation system provides a pleasant environment and a good quality stereo radio and CD player keeps the teams entertained whilst on the move as well as informing them about potential traffic hold-ups. Safety features including side-impact protection and ABS provide an added margin of safety whatever the road or weather conditions. The powerful and fuel-efficient 2-litre CDTi engine delivers a generous 90 PS for good journey times. Premium Feel and Stunning Design Define New Insignia’s Interior
These are the very first official shots of the soon-to-be-launched Insignia’s interior, showing the immense attention to detail Vauxhall’s designers have lavished on the car’s cabin. Highlights include chronometer-inspired instruments, use of high-quality fabrics and materials, and a unique instrument lighting system. First impression is of Insignia’s bold, wrap around interior, dominated by the signature ‘wing’ that flows from the front instrument panel and dives into the door panels. The surfaces from the exterior’s ‘blade’ feature are echoed in the shape of the interior grab handle, where the bright accent material sweeps dramatically into the door armrest. The cabin’s interior lighting gives Insignia a unique night-time appearance. Vauxhall’s designers have added a warm amber-coloured ambient light to enhance the night driving environment. The instrument cluster is illuminated white, but on pressing the ‘Sport’ button, the lighting turns red to match the surrounding illumination. “This is a paradigm shift for Vauxhall,” says John Puskar, Executive Director of Interior Design at GM Europe. “We wanted to create interior environments for all our future vehicles that are warm, inviting and sporty. The Insignia is the first evidence of this philosophy.” Cabin practicality will also raise the bar in Insignia’s market sector. The centre console offers flexibility and intelligent design solutions, such as a space-liberating e-brake and separate multi-function control on certain models. Both the steering wheel and front seats have a huge range of adjustability to suit all shapes and sizes, while adjustable armrests, ergonomically placed controls, a multi-use storage box and MP3 connectivity will reinforce Insignia’s appeal to private and business drivers. “Every detail was meticulously thought through,” says Jochen Werner, Insignia’s Assistant Chief Interior Designer. “We even tipped the infotainment centre at a 30 degree angle to allow the centre console to flow and give the car’s cabin a greater feeling of spaciousness.” Many of Insignia’s interior design features will provide the DNA for future Vauxhall designs. Variations on sculptural artistry – the wing, flowing sculptural forms and a sporty dynamic environment – will be used moving forward, as Vauxhall refines and evolves its new-found design language. New V8 for VXR8: same calories, fuller flavour
Vauxhall’s mighty VXR8 super-saloon gets a potent new V8 engine this summer, with even more power and improved performance. The new unit allows the VXR8 to raise the bar yet again among its rivals, optimising its sophisticated rear-wheel drive chassis still further and retaining its mantle as a driver’s car like no other in its class. New colour and equipment options further enhance this, the fastest car to wear the Griffin badge. Known as LS3, the new V8 engine’s capacity grows from 5967cc to 6162cc and thanks to various improvements over the outgoing LS2 unit, such as high-flow cylinder heads, new pistons and an enhanced valvetrain, power is up by 14PS to 431PS at 6000rpm. This translates to a reduced 0-60mph time for cars with automatic transmissions (down from 5.0 seconds to 4.9) and improved in-gear acceleration for manual models (50-70mph in 3rd gear drops from 2.8 to 2.6 seconds; 30-50mph in 2nd gear drops from 2.0 to 1.9 seconds). And if you fancy smoking your VXR8 at a track day, you’ll see 80-100mph times fall from 4.3 to just 4.0 seconds in 4th gear. Buyers for the LS3-engined VXR8s also receive the choice of an all-new body colour - Heron White – at no extra cost, as well as the option of factory-fit 20-inch rims for the first time on this model. Prices for both manual and automatic versions of the LS3-powered VXR8, which are on sale now, rise by £485 to £35,695. For more information contact any of our Platinum Vauxhall dealerships. The Vauxhall Astravan has won yet another prestigious award! Astravan’s latest award brings yet more success for the model, which has already been commended in the Commercial Motor Tester’s Choice awards 2007 as well as being given the coveted What Van? Editor’s Choice accolade the previous year. PV<’s judges singled the Astravan out as having ‘better load capacity and payload than anything else in the category’ as well as remarking on its driver appeal. The magazine’s publisher, Tim Campbell, said: “From over 90 vans assessed, the Astravan excelled among its rivals for its all-round ability and larger than average size, making it a very worthy winner.” Astravan production accounts for well over 12,000 vehicles a year from the Ellesmere Port plant in Cheshire, home of the five-door Astra hatchback. It is a significant contributor to GM’s position as the UK’s biggest producer of commercial vehicles, with more than 100,000 LCVs built in the UK in 2007 at both the Astravan plant and the GMM Luton facility, which makes Vivaro-type vans for all European markets. In 2007, Vauxhall achieved a record number of commercial vehicle sales in the UK, with over 53,000 vans sold to customers. Of those, more than 30,000 were built in the UK.

The body’s sculpted shape is accented by sweeping front and rear light designs and enhanced by a bold radiator grille with a new-look Vauxhall emblem. A distinctive “blade” feature runs from behind the front wheel along the side of the car, further emphasising its taut and rakish lines. “We’ve re-defined our design vocabulary,” says Mark Adams, Vice President Design, GM Europe. “The Insignia is muscular, but lithe and curvaceous. Our aim was to develop a confident look which reinforced the car’s superb driving dynamics, but also one that made it clear that this was a premium product, albeit still at a highly competitive price in its class.” Vauxhall’s unique design language spreads into the cabin of the Insignia, bringing new levels of luxury, style and quality. The dashboard’s top-pad wraps around from the instrument panel to the door, creating a unique wing-shape and embracing the occupants. Ambient lighting, which will be featured in future Vauxhall models, radiates a warm, luxurious aura. Much emphasis has also been put into the development of the seats, which set the highest standards in ergonomics, comfort and safety. Vauxhall’s unique expertise in lighting technology is underpinned by the Insignia’s latest generation AFL (Adaptive Forward Lighting) system. Nine different light beam settings automatically adjust themselves to cater for various driving conditions, simultaneously enhancing safety and driving pleasure. Moreover, the distinctive styling signature of the front and rear light clusters adds to the Insignia’s unique design. The further enhanced IDSPlus active chassis system helps the car adapt to prevailing driving conditions. The Insignia will be offered with front-wheel and all-wheel drive. The new ‘Adaptive 4X4’ system’s proactive, instantaneous torque distribution not only ensures optimal traction but also enhances dynamic handling performance. The Insignia is available with five engines at launch. All meet the Euro 5 emissions standard and come with either manual or automatic six-speed transmissions. The three petrol engines range from a four-cylinder 140PS unit to a V6 with 260PS. Two new 2.0-litre direct-injection diesel engines will be offered with power outputs of either 130PS or 160PS. In time, the Insignia engine line-up will be extended with an EcoFLEX version offering ultra-low CO2 emissions in addition to other, more powerful variants. “The Insignia is one of our most ambitious projects to date, and we will be revealing the full extent of our technological progress when the car is officially launched at the British International Motor Show in London on July 22,” says Andy Gilson, Marketing Director, Vauxhall Motors. The Insignia was developed by GM Europe with a significant contribution coming from Vauxhall’s Engineering Centre at Millbrook in Bedfordshire, UK.

A new Service and Maintenance Plan has been launched by Vauxhall to provide complete peace of mind for new van owners. By replacing the unpredictability of servicing and wear and tear costs with easy to budget monthly payments of just £29.99 inc VAT for Corsavan, Combo and Astravan, and £31.99 inc VAT for Vivaro and Movano, the new plan effectively eliminates unexpectedly large servicing and repair bills, putting you in control of your own running costs. Available through participating Vauxhall retailers around the country, the Service and Maintenance Plan not only covers routine servicing but also wear and tear components such as brakes, tyres and exhaust systems. All parts and labour costs for routine servicing and additional essential repairs to any wear and tear items are covered, including disc and drum brakes, clutches, steering joints, shock absorbers, exhausts and wiper blades. The new Service and Maintenance Plan is designed to complement Vauxhall’s standard three year manufacturer’s warranty. It does not cover accidental or malicious damage, which would normally be covered through the owner’s insurance policy. The plan embraces new Vauxhall vans purchased from authorised Vauxhall retailers during the first three years or 60,000 miles of ownership.
Vauxhall’s Griffin Flies to New Horizon Long established as the face of the marque, Vauxhall’s Griffin will be given a new look for 2008. The new incarnation follows the rapid progress Vauxhall has made in vehicle design and overall brand perception in recent years, underpinned by the success of both Astra and Corsa models. Displaying a more dynamic and contemporary look, the new Griffin will make its first appearance on the new Insignia, which will debut at the British International Motor Show in July. It will then appear progressively on every all-new Vauxhall launched in the future. Bill Parfitt, Vauxhall’s Managing Director, said that the new-look Griffin represented far more than just a badge re-design: “While the new-look Griffin pays homage to our 100 year-plus manufacturing heritage in the UK, it also encapsulates Vauxhall’s fresh design philosophy, first showcased in the current Astra, and set to continue with Insignia. “This recent evolution of the brand has resulted in Vauxhall’s incredible sales success over the last three years. Its retail share in the UK has increased significantly, while the manufacturing plants in Luton and Ellesmere Port produced in excess of 220,000 vehicles, with 59 per cent going for export, and the remainder making an important contribution to domestic sales.” First public airing of the new Griffin will be later this summer, on Vauxhall’s Griffin House HQ in Luton. Retailers’ corporate identity will begin the change of the new Griffin in August 2008. Meriva Concept: Next Level of Flexibility
With the dynamically styled Meriva Concept, Opel/Vauxhall presents the next level of monocab flexibility at the International Motor Show in Geneva (March 6 – 16, 2008). The concept car features rear-hinged rear doors on both sides of the car called FlexDoors. While the front doors are conventionally designed with front hinges, the rear doors swing open towards the back of the car. Another feature of the family-oriented Meriva Concept is that the front and rear doors can open independently of each other. Rear-hinged rear doors already on the market can only be opened after the front door has been opened, which severely limits their practicality. GM’s patented FlexDoors innovation offers a wide range of benefits:
FlexDoors’ smooth operation is backed up by an array of patented innovations developed by GM engineers. A safety system ensures the doors can only be opened from the inside or outside when there is no risk to the passengers. The Meriva Concept also features an automatic electronic child lock, which supplements the conventional mechanical system. The concept car also has B-pillars not only for independent opening but also for side-impact safety reasons. The Meriva Concept’s design is distinguished by its attractive combination of practicality and spaciousness with very dynamic and cool styling. The concept car’s distinctive window line, arched roof, wide track and impressively sculpted body give a good indication of what is to be expected from future Opel/Vauxhall production monocabs. “The Meriva Concept clearly illustrates how our new Opel/Vauxhall design language can be adapted to create bold, fresh design solutions for the monocab segment,” says Mark Adams, Vice President of Design, General Motors Europe. Especially eye-catching is the dynamic ‘wave’ of the window line just behind the B-pillars, which provides an excellent all-round view for rear passengers. This also enabled designers to create a dynamic and unique silhouette and still provide good visibility for children in the rear. The body also boasts the distinctive “blade” bodyside form, which was a design element of the GTC Coupé and Flextreme. Another feature is the U-shaped windshield, which stretches up and back over the rear passengers’ heads. Rear section elements – in particular the rear lights – echo the Insignia, Opel/Vauxhall’s new upper mid-size class car due to be unveiled in the summer. The monocab’s roof slopes gently downward towards the rear, underlining its dynamic character. “The FlexDoors concept is a logical enhancement of our monocabs’ flexibility,” explains Alain Visser, Chief Marketing Officer, General Motors Europe. “With the Zafira’s Flex7® seating system and the Meriva’s FlexSpace concept, we took on a similar pioneering role in interior flexibility.” Opel/Vauxhall is enjoying great success with its monocab designs: in 2007, almost 335,000 Zafira and Meriva models were sold. And with the new Agila, monocab experts Opel/Vauxhall now also offer an entry-level monocab in the mini-car segment. Every fifth Opel/Vauxhall model sold today is a monocab, while in the total market it is just every eighth car. Vauxhall will be throwing open the doors of its Heritage Centre to mark the annual ‘Drive it Day’ celebration of classic motoring on Sunday, April 20. Drive it Day is an initiative set up by the Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs – an umbrella body representing the classic vehicle movement in the UK – to encourage owners of old or interesting cars, vans, bikes or trucks to take to the road for one day and demonstrate the strength of the historic vehicle movement in the UK. It campaigns against issues that may affect the right to use historic vehicles on our roads. As part of the Drive it Day campaigns, a number of venues throughout the country are hosting visitors who arrive in classic machinery. Among them will be the Vauxhall Heritage Centre – a site not normally open to the public – at the company’s head office in Luton. Individual classic car owners or groups representing clubs are welcome at the centre on the day, and teas and coffees will be available for all. The Heritage Centre is home to over 50 classic Vauxhall cars ranging from the earliest 1903 5hp model through to modern classics such as the Monaro VXR 500. Other highlights include the Lotus Carlton, the rarely-seen VX Lightning Concept Car and an original Price Henry, along with all manner of Vauxhalls that became household names through the years, such as Vivas, Victors, Astras and Cavaliers. Opening times will be 10.30am to 4.30pm, and the entrance to the Heritage Centre can be found in Park Street, Luton, behind the main Griffin House headquarters in Osborne Road, postcode LU1 3YT. Zafira Gets a New Look as Sales Continue to Boom
Britain’s best-selling MPV has just got even better! The changes, set to coincide with the introduction of the new ‘08’ number plates, include extra chrome detailing on the radiator grille, new fog lamp surrounds, revised rear lamp clusters and chrome detailing on the front headlamp lenses. With a focus on high value and comprehensive equipment levels, the new Exclusiv trim comes with an impressive equipment list. Standard kit includes air conditioning, a CD stereo, remote central deadlocking, electric front windows, side, front and curtain airbags, 16-inch Structure wheels, roof rails and body-coloured exterior trim. Curtain airbags become standard on all Zafira models, while Design, Elite and VXR models also get new piano black interior detailing around the audio and ventilation controls. In 2007, Vauxhall sold 47,813 Zafiras, giving the model a total of 27.7 per cent of the compact monocab segment. The Zafira alone beat the combined sales of one key rival’s three MPV models, proving that the model’s flexibility makes it a favourite with many different types of customer. As well as the Zafira, Vauxhall offers the smaller Meriva and the soon to be launched New Agila. 2007 smashes all previous sales records for Vauxhall Commercial Vehicles
It's a commercial success for Vauxhall! In the company's best ever sales year, 52,943 commercial vehicles found new homes in the UK in 2007. What's more, over 30,000 of the vans sold were built in Britain - the best-selling model was the Vivaro, constructed at GM Manufacturing's plant in Luton, Beds, which notched up 18,231 sales, while the Ellesmere Port-built Astravan found 11,859 new owners. The all-New Corsavan and popular Combo were also a roaring success, with demand in excess of supply throughout the year. Overall, Vauxhall's market share was up 1.1 per cent at 15.7 per cent, while with 13,323 vans sold to non-fleet customers, Vauxhall also saw its best-ever performance in the retail van market, with a share of 12.2 per cent. The strong sales further emphasise the UK's position as GM's strongest LCV market in Europe, while GM also remains the UK's biggest commercial vehicle manufacturer. In 2007, the 500,000th Vivaro-type van rolled off the Luton production line, while GM now builds in excess of 100,000 LCVs a year in the UK. Further successes included the introduction of new Sportive and Sportive SE versions of Corsavan and Astravan, the introduction of B30-Biodiesel compatible LCV models and a new major account with broadcaster BSkyB to take 1,700 Vivaros over a three-year period. Vauxhall vans also loaded up with silverware in 2007, with six major awards, including two for New Corsavan, plus the coveted Green Fleet manufacturer of the year accolade. For more information on the Corsavan, feel free to visit any of our 3 Platinum Vauxhall dealerships. Corsa C Model Recall - ABS Control Unit Replacement Vauxhall Motors is recalling c355,000 Corsa C generation 3 and 5-door models built between 2004 and 2006 and Combo van and Tigra models built between 2004 and 2008 to replace the ABS brake control unit. The new D generation Corsa 3 and 5-door models introduced in 2006 are not affected by this action. Earlier this year Vauxhall completed an investigation into thermal incidents involving the previous generation Corsa and its derivatives. These investigations confirmed that vehicles which had previously undergone a recall rectification of the engine wiring harness, have an extremely low risk of a thermal incident. The safety and quality of Vauxhall products remains the company's highest priority, it therefore considers any fault unacceptable. Upon further technical evaluation and additional testing it was determined that new components were required, including an ABS control unit and cover assembly. These new components are now available and Vauxhall is launching a recall in line with VOSA guidelines. Vauxhall is contacting owners by letter from Friday December 14th recognising that a recall of this size must be completed in phases to ensure proper care of its customers - who are advised to continue using their vehicles in the normal manner. Vauxhall asks customers to please wait for their recall letter which will request that they contact their retailer to make an appointment. This will ensure that their vehicle is reworked quickly and efficiently in line with the phased programme. Corsa owners who have any concerns about their car or the recall plan should call Vauxhall Customer Service on 0845 090 2044 or via email at vauxhall.customerassistance@uk.gm.com or contact any of our 3 Platinum Vauxhall Service Departments: 01225 759585 - Platinum Vauxhall Trowbridge, 01249 654321 - Platinum Vauxhall Chippenham 01373 465881 - Platinum Vauxhall Frome. Low Co2 And Competitive Pricing - The Flexy New Agila "
New Agila arrives at showrooms in April Low emissions and an affordable price tag mean Vauxhall's New Agila is set to be hot in the city when it arrives in showrooms in April. Available to order from early next year, the compact but flexible newcomer benefits from tax-busting CO2 figures of just 120g/km on both the entry-level petrol and diesel engines, meaning it will fall into VED Band B - the cost of a tax disc being just £35 a year! Adding to its affordability, Agila will cost from only £7,595 when it arrives. Three trim levels will be on offer, all with impressive levels of standard equipment, plus the added advantage of the car's incredibly versatile interior layout. Small enough to be manoeuvrable into tight parking spaces, but with five doors and five full-size seats with three-point belts as standard, Agila benefits from enough luggage space to rival cars in the class above, providing plenty of room for the busiest of lifestyles. The clever design allows for plenty of storage space inside and the tall roofline provides an airy, spacious feel. It also allows a high seating position, making it easy to get in and out of the Agila and ensure good visibility even in heavy urban traffic. For those occasions when owners need to carry furniture rather than friends, the rear seat backs can be folded down to create a completely flat load floor on all but the entry-level model. In total the new Agila has a luggage capacity of 1050 litres - among the best in this sector. To complement
the dynamic looks and all-new chassis, the Agila will offer three
new engines and an automatic gearbox will be available for the first
time. Petrol units include a 1.0-litre three-cylinder unit developing
65PS and an 85PS 1.2, the latter of which will be available with optional
automatic transmission. Vauxhall's award-winning 1.3CDTi diesel will
also be on offer, delivering excellent performance from its 75PS while
sipping fuel. A Family Christmas Means Loads Of Fun - Thanks To Vauxhall Movano! " Britain
consumes 10-million turkeys and one billion Christmas cards 'Tis the season to be jolly - so if you are one of the thousands of delivery drivers working hard to keep the UK's 25-million households stocked up with the essentials this Christmas you're going to need every bit of the huge 13.9 cubic metre load capacity the Vauxhall Movano LWB Maxi Roof offers. It's not easy to imagine the 8,000 tonnes of wrapping paper the country will get through this festive season or the 32-million metres of fairy lights we'll string up (that's enough to circle the world 25 times). So to try to make sense of it all here's the Vauxhall Movano Van Guide to Christmas: We'll buy on average six-million Christmas trees this year which would require 142,858 seriously big Movano vans to deliver. The 10-million turkeys will need 6,173 van loads while the nation's 840-million Brussels sprouts (that's 15,000 tonnes or the weight of 37 Jumbo Jets) would call for a mere 495 vans, although there'd probably be several more required for the air freshener afterwards! Looking forward to dessert would entail 3,424 Movano vans to deliver the 175-million mince pies, 4,674 van loads of wine for the 35-million bottles we'll drink and not forgetting 5,987 vans for the 25-million Christmas puddings! Of course we'll also be sending 1 billion Christmas Cards (28,058 vans worth) and consuming 12 million jars of pickles with our turkey and Brussels sprouts, which would involve a further 635 vans. So whilst wrapping your Christmas presents with some of the 8,000 tonnes of wrapping paper we go through - enough to wrap up the isle of Guernsey should one so wish - spare a thought for all the hard working vans and their drivers out there this Christmas!
The Car For When Even An Astra VXR Isn't VXR Enough "
Astra VXR Nürburgring Edition, on sale now There are plenty of hot hatches on the market, but it's the Astra VXR that's the undisputed Ring leader And to prove it, Vauxhall has pulled the wraps off the Nürburgring edition, named after the car's spiritual home, where much of its pre-production development was carried out. Based on the standard Astra VXR and priced at £20,995, each individually numbered Nürburgring edition will come with an exclusive all-white paint finish and lightweight white 18-inch alloy wheels, equipped with bespoke Dunlop tyres, are also specified. Other exterior features include dark tinted windows, carbon fibre effect mirrors and B-pillars and distinctive chequered flag body graphics, to further emphasise the car's incredible performance. Mechanically similar to the standard VXR, the Nürburgring Edition produces 240PS in factory tune, giving it the ability to accelerate from 0-60mph in 6.2 seconds and on to an electronically-limited top speed of 155mph. Each UK-specification car will also come provided with a Remus Sports Exhaust, developed with Vauxhall's BTCC race team, Triple-Eight Race Engineering. Like the standard car, the Nürburgring Edition benefits from a six-speed manual gearbox and lowered uprated VXR suspension with ESP as standard. Ventilated 321mm diameter disc brakes at the front and 278mm diameter discs at the back help slow things down, while blue-painted callipers remain a VXR trademark. The Nürburgring Edition theme continues inside, with carbon fibre detailing on the door trims and fascia, leather trim with the Nürburgring circuit graphic embossed into the unique Recaro front seat backrests and an individually numbered plaque showing each car's build number. In
fact, the only thing it doesn't come with is one of those Nürburgring
bootlid stickers you can buy when you do a lap of the circuit. Such
a shame, as it means you'll have to drive it there and buy one yourself. Prestigious Prize For Corsavan "
Corsavan named Small Van of the Year by What Van? Yet another trophy has been added to Vauxhall's cabinet after the Corsavan was crowned 'Small Van of the Year' by the prestigious magazine, What Van? The award is the second accolade for New Corsavan, which was named 'Best Car-Derived Van' by Professional Van and Light Truck magazine earlier in the year. Praising the newest addition to Vauxhall's LCV range, What Van? editor Neil McIntee said: "If you're looking to minimise your carbon footprint without compromising on performance, ride, safety or cab space and are looking to achieve these in a small van you can park just about anywhere, look no further. We reckon that Vauxhall's latest Corsavan could be just what you're looking for, and that's why it's What Van? Small Van of the Year for 2007." The judges also praised Corsavan's styling, payload and purpose-built load area - a feature uncommon in this area of the market, where a lot of vans are simply converted hatchbacks. The latest piece of silverware brings Vauxhall's haul of awards for its commercial vehicles to a total of 18 different commendations since 2005, while continued sales growth means Vauxhall Commercial Vehicles currently has its best year-to-date sales ever. Regarded as the ultimate publication for van buyers and drivers, the What Van? awards are judged by a panel of drivers and fleet managers, as well as the magazine's own editorial team.
In-Car Acoustics Desperate to be the next Will Young or Kate Nash? Vauxhall Motors has conducted a series of scientific studies to reveal that the best place to hone your vocal chords and improve your singing voice is in the car. Vauxhall Motors teamed up with Dr Stuart Colam of Arup Acoustics, designers of The Bridgewater Hall and Wales Millennium Centre and discovered that the interior of a car is acoustically one of the best places for budding singers. Stuart assessed the acoustics in a range of Vauxhall cars to find out how certain variables such as size could affect the sound of a voice. Croon
While You Cruise Despite
nearly two-thirds of the nation enjoying a good sing-along, the research
also revealed we are suffering a confidence crisis, with 41% of us
refusing to burst into song when others are in earshot. How
to get the best acoustics from your car from acoustician, Stuart Colam: On singing in your car, Stuart Colam concludes, "The combination of sound absorbing surfaces (for clarity) and sound reflecting surfaces (for support), together with good sound insulation from the windows enables songsters to sing with confidence whilst also truly hearing intonation imperfections often masked in other favourite singing haunts such as the shower." Singing advice
to turn your voice from terrible to tuneful by vocalist Clive Brown: Simon Ewart of Vauxhall says, "When it comes to enjoying a good singing session in your car, confidence is key. The fact that the research shows 29% less people sing when others are in earshot is what prompted us to join up with Stuart Colam and Clive Brown to tackle this confidence crisis and get more Vauxhall motorists singing!"

Vauxhall Corsavan records 81.02mpg on MPG Marathon Fleet customers and private van drivers who opt for a Corsavan will be able to rack up loads of miles on just the one tank, as the latest addition to Vauxhall's LCV range proved on the AA/ALD Automotive MPG Marathon. A Corsavan 1.3 CDTi Club, driven by journalist John Kendall and university tutor Paul Nieuwenhuis, clocked up an impressive 81.02mpg on the two-day eco event - enough to give the smallest model in Vauxhall's van line-up a potential range of over 800 miles.* What's more, thanks to an increased payload over the outgoing model, Corsavan customers can benefit from being able to carry more than before. Indeed, the MPG Marathon vehicle was carrying a ballast of 275kg - half of the 550kg maximum payload. The 81.02mpg figure was the highest recorded on the event, a two-day, 334-mile route across Hampshire, Somerset and Devon incorporating motorway, town and cross country driving, at almost 3mpg more than the winning car, a Toyota Aygo carrying no extra weight. Corsavan's incredible performance was backed up by a similarly impressive return from the Vivaro - twice winner of the AA-backed event. This year, a long-wheelbase Vivaro 2900 CDTi was crowned top in its class, returning 46.36mpg over the route with a weighty 447kg of ballast on board. For more information on the Corsavan or any other Vauxhall van, please contact Platinum Vauxhall. We're a Nation Of Music Motorheads 1 in 3 Brits hit the road just so they can listen to their favourite tunes Forget muddy fields, mp3 players, nightclubs or state of the art sound systems at home, a study of the in-car listening habits of 1,200 drivers by Vauxhall Motors reveals that the place Brits most like to go to indulge their personal music pleasures is their own car. 41% say their car is their favourite place to listen to music, twice as many as their home, (22%) in second place and 10 times as many as their iPod or mp3, (11%) away from the car. We spend the equivalent to a year and a half1 of our life alone in our cars listening to music and one in three motorists (32%) admit to specifically taking their car out for a drive to indulge in secret music pleasures away from friends, family and partners. The new research also found that one in five motorists (21%) admit they use their car for a sneaky fix of the popular trend of 'guilty pleasures' easy listening music by the likes of Lionel Ritchie and Celine Dion and 14% have a secret passion for heavy metal such as Motorhead and Metallica. Planning is another high priority for Britain's road rockers with 76% of people revealing that music preparation for car jukeboxing is a must before slipping behind the wheel for a long car journey. It's not always musical harmony as 78% of motorists say they've had their music changed by passengers. A quarter (26%) of men and fifth of women drivers (20%) believe it is bad etiquette for passengers to complain about their choice of music, explaining why so many of us like to take time alone with out tunes on the road. Simon Ewart from Vauxhall Motors comments, "These results reveal just how much drivers enjoy the freedom to listen to what they really want to hear thanks to their car. Not even we anticipated the emerging trend of cars being the place to secretly stash your guilty pleasure songs. Vauxhall will have to look into creating hidden compartments to hide those forbidden tracks to keep your image intact." The Legend Returns - Corsa SRi Is Back! " Sporty
Corsa makes a welcome return One of the nation's best-loved hot hatches has returned to Vauxhall showrooms after a two-year absence. The latest addition to the New Corsa line-up, the SRi revives one of the best known hot hatch monikers in a package that offers incredible levels of driving excitement, great looks and affordability. Designed to appeal to buyers who don't need all the hardcore thrills of the VXR but still appreciate style and sharp driving dynamics, the SRi looks set to further broaden the appeal of the Corsa range. Two powertrains are on offer - a new 150PS 1.6-litre turbo unit, or a 125PS 1.7 CDTi diesel. The petrol unit is based on that found in the Corsa VXR, and gives the SRi the ability to sprint from 0-60mph in just 7.6 seconds and on to a top speed of 130mph. The diesel model also offers impressive performance, accelerating from 0-60mph in 9.3 seconds, with a top speed of 121mph. But as well as the impressive performance, it returns a combined average of 58.9mpg. For both models, the power is kept in check by a specially developed sports chassis, lowered by 18mm at the front and 15mm at the rear and featuring ESP as standard. The power steering features variable progressive feedback, meaning the weighting at the wheel changes electronically to deliver optimum driver feedback. And Corsa's striking
looks are made more purposeful courtesy of a front spoiler, deep body-coloured
side sills, 17-inch alloy wheels, a chrome sports exhaust pipe and
a subtle tailgate spoiler. Inside, red-detailed sports seats, a leather-trimmed
steering wheel with red inserts, alloy pedals and red seatbelts further
set the performance tone.
Prices Vauxhall Commercial Vehicles Shows Rivals A 'Green' Pair Of Heels "
Vauxhall wins Green Fleet's LCV Manufacturer of the Year for the second
time in a row The prize ceremony, hosted in central London, recognises vehicle manufacturers, suppliers and related industries that have made significant contributions towards reducing their carbon output and furthering their commitment to sustainable transport. And Vauxhall Commercial Vehicles, which won the inaugural 2006 Green Fleet LCV Manufacturer of the Year award for its low CO2 models, has repeated its success in 2007. The Green Fleet judges, comprising a panel of motoring journalists, key fleet customers and industry experts, praised Vauxhall Commercial Vehicles for its ongoing commitment to sustainable fuel sources. The panel singled out the company's B30 Biodiesel fleet trials and availability of LPG conversions on its smaller models as key factors in the decision to award the title to Vauxhall for the second year running. Vauxhall's parent company, GM, is Britain's biggest manufacturer of commercial vehicles, with around 100,000 vans a year produced in the UK at two of GM's most efficient sites. The GMM Luton plant builds the Vivaro panel van and its variants, while the popular Astravan is constructed at GM's Ellesmere Port factory - home of the Astra hatchback. Sales of Vauxhall vans have more than doubled since 2000, thanks to success driven by models such as the British-built Vivaro, the seriously big Movano and a wide range of approved conversions, while smaller vans such as the driver-oriented Corsavan and Astravan, plus the massively popular Combo further strengthen the marque's profile in the LCV market.
Three-In-A-Row Success For Vauxhall " Vauxhall
is UK's number one car brand for the third month in a row It's an unprecedented
third month in a row for Vauxhall at the top of the sales charts -
the first time since records began that the Luton-based manufacturer
has beaten its nearest rival over such a period. Much of the success was down to the Astra, the most popular five-door hatchback version of which is built at the Ellesmere Port plant in Cheshire. It was the UK's best-selling model overall with 4,520 total sales. New Corsa also made a significant contribution, with 3,134 sales making it both the country's favourite supermini, and also the most popular car among Britain's private car buying customers. What's more, two other Vauxhall models were at the top of their market segments, with Zafira outselling all other MPVs and the evergreen Vectra continuing to lead the large family car market. Vauxhall's Managing Director, Bill Parfitt, said: "A third month at the top proves that Vauxhall has a brilliant range of products, and that the new generation of design and dynamic driving attributes exhibited by our model range is proving the hit we expected with British buyers. We are very proud of our growth in 2007." Up to the end of August, Vauxhall had sold 215,115 new cars this year, increasing its overall market share from 13.30 per cent year-to-date in 2006 to 14.14 per cent. New models introduced this year include the Antara SUV and the sporty Corsa VXR and VXR8, while an all-new Agila city car is set to debut in early 2008. Historic Vauxhalls Join Celebration of British Car Manufacture " Four classic
Vauxhall models to join BMIHT display at Gaydon Four all-time classic Vauxhall models representing the highlights of over a century's uninterrupted UK car manufacture have gone on display at the country's foremost collection of historic vehicles. The cars will become a core part of a special display at the newly reopened British Motor Heritage Centre at Gaydon, Warks, celebrating car manufacturing in Britain. Vauxhall's parent company, GM, currently builds almost 300,000 vehicles a year in the UK, with production of the Astra hatchback (Vauxhall's best-selling model) and Astravan at Ellesmere Port, Cheshire, and the Vivaro van and its variants in Vauxhall's spiritual home of Luton, Bedfordshire. The four cars come from Vauxhall's own private Heritage Centre, based in Luton. The centre is home to over 60 classic cars and commercial vehicles, ranging from the very first 1903 6hp Vauxhall through to recent additions such as the last-ever Monaro VXR. Each of the cars selected for the Gaydon display represents an important era in Vauxhall's history. The oldest vehicle is the 1911 C-Type Prince Henry and is the earliest known survivor of its type. Much less stately, but no less important, the Luton-built H-Type 10hp from 1937 was the first ever unitary construction car, setting the precedent for modern manufacturing techniques, while the third car to join the collection, the 1953 E-Type Wyvern, clearly shows how US car design influenced European styling. Finally, the newest model to join the display is a vivid yellow example of the 1979 Vauxhall Viva. The Viva is the car for which the Ellesmere Port plant was first constructed, and the HC model on display at Gaydon is the last of the line. To customise the exterior of your Antara, the styling experts at Irmscher have created an impressive array of accessories to make your new car stand out in any crowd. The range includes a front lower spoiler, Irmscher cross hatch grille, stainless steel side running boards, sports silencer with split-oval tailpipes, rear roof spoiler and Evo Star alloy wheels. A comprehensive brochure on all Antara accessories is available from any of our Platinum Vauxhall dealers.
Express Deliveries From Vauxhall " New Astravan
Sportive SE and Corsavan Sportive models introduced Two hot new additions are joining the Vauxhall LCV line-up, bringing new levels of stylish design and driver appeal to the commercial vehicle market. With high-performance, fuel-efficient diesel engines and sports-themed styling features, the Astravan Sportive SE and Corsavan Sportive join the line-up by popular demand, after first being exhibited in concept form at this year's Commercial Vehicle Show at the NEC, Birmingham. The newcomers are the latest in a long-line of load-loving, road-loving vans - a niche which Vauxhall successfully carved out for itself in 2001 with the introduction of the original Astravan Sportive. Priced at only £14,780 ex VAT, the flagship Astravan Sportive SE comes with 17-inch, 10-spoke alloy wheels, a full body styling pack, front fog lamps and a rear roof spoiler, making it the ideal choice for small business users who want a van that projects a powerful image of their company, as well as those who love driving. Powered by a 1.9-litre 150PS common-rail diesel engine mated to a six-speed manual gearbox, the Sportive SE enjoys performance to match that of Vauxhall's more sporting car models, while the cabin is designed to offer the best in long-distance driver comfort, with sculpted, ergonomically designed sports seats. To complete the performance theme, the Sportive SE rides on lowered sports suspension, designed to deliver optimum stability in all conditions as well as enhance the van's appearance. Also joining the Vauxhall LCV line up is a Sportive variant of the popular New Corsavan, launched earlier this year. Powered by a 90PS derivative of GM's incredibly fuel-efficient 1.3-litre CDTi engine, the Corsavan Sportive comes with a six-speed manual gearbox as standard. The already attractive body gets further enhancements in the form of a styling pack, which includes body-coloured side mouldings, front fog lights, a sports exhaust tailpipe and smart 15-inch alloy wheels. Other features over and above the standard Corsavan specification include heated, body-coloured door mirrors, sports instruments, air conditioning, electric windows and sports seats. New Corsavan Sportive is priced at £10,380 ex VAT.
Vauxhall Top of the Charts Again "
Vauxhall is Britain's number one car brand for the second month running
They
might be about to make one of the most talked about comebacks of all
time, but the Spice Girls will have their work cut out if they're
to match Vauxhall's achievement of two number ones in a row
Outselling its closest rival by a massive 3,405 cars, the Luton-based manufacturer sold 26,720 cars in July - and four of the top seven cars on sale in Britain wore Vauxhall badges. What's more, the position was strengthened thanks to massive popularity with retail customers - as well as heading up the UK's overall sales, which include fleet registrations, Vauxhall was by far and away the leading brand for retail buyers, with sales 33 per cent higher than the nearest competitor. Vauxhall's top performer was the stylish New Corsa, which achieved 7,882 sales, more than 56 per cent of which were to retail buyers. Zafira and Vectra were also the best-selling cars in their respective sectors, proving that Vauxhall is still the number one choice for family motorists who value stylish design and driving dynamics just as much as they do flexibility. Vauxhall sales in the UK accounted for 15.16 per cent of the total car market last month, an impressive growth compared to 13.65 per cent in July 2006; while overall in 2007 the company has achieved 14.08 per cent of the entire car market - a significant increase on 2006. Welcoming the news, Vauxhall's managing director, Bill Parfitt, said: "The fact that we are doing so well at a retail level shows that Vauxhall has a genuinely desirable product range of which we can be rightly proud. With New Corsa doing so well and exciting new niche models such as Antara and Astra Twin Top added to our portfolio, we are seeing some very exciting results."

Vauxhall Reigns in June! " Vauxhall
top of UK sales chart for June Last month might have been the wettest June since records began, but it certainly didn't dampen the enthusiasm of Vauxhall buyers. Official figures released today show that Vauxhall overtook its main rival to become the best selling automotive brand in Britain, with a massive 33,161 car sales - that's 3,447 more than its nearest competitor and gave Vauxhall a 14.88 per cent share of all car registrations in June. The result was boosted by sales to private buyers, attracted to showrooms by exciting new product, exceptional finance deals and innovative environmental campaigns. For the first six months of 2007 more than 67,000 Vauxhall cars were registered to non-fleet customers, giving the company 10.4 per cent of the car retail market, its highest car retail share since 1995. The Astra was overall number one best seller, and it was joined in the top-ten chart by the new Corsa, Vectra and Zafira which all out-sold their class rivals. A total of 10,425 Astras found new homes in June, up 29.6 per cent on the same month last year. The award-winning new Corsa continues its success, with sales of 8,980 for the month. Since its launch in October last year, more than 61,000 new Corsas have been snapped up by eager buyers, and supply is struggling to keep up with demand. Moving up the range the Vectra topped its sector with sales of 5,826, up from 5,067 last year, and the Zafira continued its dominance of the MPV market. An 11.4 per cent sales increase saw 5,224 sold in June, almost twice that of its nearest competitor. It's not just Vauxhall cars which had a great month - the commercial vehicles were also hot sellers, with registrations rising by 10.5 per cent compared to last June. "Reaching the number one sales position is a testament to the quality of our products and the strength of our retail network," said Bill Parfitt, Vauxhall Motors' managing director. "Models such as the Astra and Corsa are clearly hitting the right spot with the public and it's truly encouraging to see that there has been a sharp increase in sales to private customers. When retail buyers choose a Vauxhall its proof that we have got our range just right."
Vivaro Hits Half-Million Milestone " 500,000th
van rolls off the line at Luton Production at General Motors' Manufacturing Luton plant has reached a significant milestone, with the plant's half-millionth van rolling off the production line. The bright red Vauxhall Vivaro SWB panel van was the 500,000th vehicle produced at the GMM Luton plant under a joint manufacturing agreement established in 2001, which sees GM building all European specification low-roof versions of the Vivaro in both Vauxhall and Opel guise, as well as for the Renault and Nissan brands. The high demand for the van makes GMM Luton Britain's largest light commercial vehicle manufacturer, with total production for 2006 reaching 89,065. The plant employs over 1,700 people in the Luton area, and is a significant contributor to both the British and local economies. Donna Sanford, Plant Director of GMM Luton, said, "The recent success of the multi-award winning Vivaro is down to the hard work and dedication of our workforce - and this milestone shows just how successful the van has been in the market." Total production for 2007 is expected to see the site's biggest year yet for the Vivaro and its variants, following a boost in popularity helped by some model enhancements and new engines in 2006. Vivaro is one of Europe's most successful vans, with recent honours including best medium van at the Van Fleet World Awards, Van of the Year 2006 from Professional Van and Light Truck magazine and best medium-sized panel van from What Van?
Legendary SRi Badge Returns to Corsa Range " New performance
version of award-winning Corsa Hot on the heels of the Corsa VXR, Vauxhall has revealed that its legendary SRi badge is to return on another performance version of the new Corsa. Set to reach showrooms in September as either a three-door or a five-door, the Corsa SRi is designed to appeal to buyers who don't need all the performance of the VXR but still appreciate style and sharp driving dynamics. Petrol versions are powered by a new detuned 150PS version of the turbocharged engine found in Corsa VXR, taking the SRi from 0-60mph in just 7.6 seconds and on to a top speed of 130mph. The power is kept in check by a specially developed sports chassis, lowered by 18mm at the front and 15mm at the rear and featuring ESP as standard. The power steering also features variable progressive feedback, meaning the weight of the steering adjusts electronically to keep the driver well informed at all times. For those buyers wanting more economy a diesel will also be offered, using the 1.7-litre CDTi with 125PS. As you'd expect from a car wearing the SRi badge, it offers impressive performance, accelerating from 0-60mph in 9.3 seconds, and going on to a top speed of 121 mph and yet achieves an average of 58.9 mpg. Purposeful looks
are provided by a front spoiler, deep body-coloured side sills, 17-inch
alloy wheels, chrome sports exhaust pipe and subtle tailgate spoiler.
Inside, red-detailed sports seats, a leather-trimmed steering wheel
with red inserts, alloy pedals and red seatbelts further set the performance
tone.
Vauxhall Moves to Makes Britain Banger-Free " New incentives
to make Vauxhall's 'greenest' models more affordable Now, as the first part of a new, Europe-wide General Motors environmental initiative called ecoFLEX, Vauxhall is introducing an incentive to help owners scrap their bangers and swap into the most fuel-efficient and lowest-polluting new Vauxhalls. From now until the end of August, Vauxhall will offer a £1,000 bonus for anyone trading in a car which is then scrapped in exchange for the lowest emission versions of the Corsa, Meriva, Astra and Zafira. Even for drivers who do not want their cars scrapped, dealers will still offer a £250 trade-in bonus to encourage buyers into one of Vauxhall's cleanest models. Vauxhall believes this campaign could have a dramatic effect on emissions. According to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) figures, over 15 million cars currently on UK roads are seven years old or more; nearly nine million of these have passed their ninth birthday and over four million cars are more than 12 years old. Even if these vehicles are well maintained, many will not have the latest emission control equipment and - contrary to expectations - are actually less fuel efficient too. Taking these cars off the road could have a significant effect on emissions of harmful pollutants, including the 'greenhouse gas', carbon dioxide. For example, a 1995 Vauxhall Astra 1.7D was capable of an average 44.2mpg, whereas the 1.3 CDTi unit in the current Astra returns 58.9mpg. Every litre of petrol spared saves 2.4kg of CO2 and every litre of diesel saves 2.6kg, so a British driver covering 12,000 miles a year in the new Astra would save around £300 in fuel and a huge 800kg of CO2 annually. And it's not just CO2 levels which are reduced by driving a new Vauxhall. The latest catalyst technology drastically reduces the most poisonous emissions from a car exhaust. Taking just a thousand petrol vehicles built in the early 1990s off British roads would prevent 11.5 tons of nitrogen oxide ( NOx ) and 41.5 tons of carbon monoxide (CO) being pumped into the atmosphere each year, based on an annual mileage of 12,000. Vauxhall doesn't only think it's the efficiency of cars which is crucial to help the environment, and has worked tirelessly to improve manufacturing processes. As a result the Ellesmere Port plant in Cheshire which builds the latest Astra has halved energy consumption in terms of kWh/vehicle since 2003. "Modern, low-emission vehicles can only help the environment when they also replace the old cars which still blight Britain's roads," says Jonathan Browning, Vauxhall's Chairman and Vice-President GM Europe. "We know that there are many drivers who would love to see their old car scrapped and replaced by a modern safe, fuel efficient, reliable and 'greener' vehicle, but they think they can't afford it. Vauxhall will now assist them. "The scrapping incentive is only the first part of our ecoFLEX campaign. We will continue to optimise the internal combustion engine through technologies such as downsizing and turbo charging while perfecting innovations such as the E-Flex hybrid and fuel cells. Ultimately, we aim to remove the car from the environmental equation." In addition to the ecoFLEX scrapping incentives, customers can still take their choice of Vauxhall's existing customer offers, which include zero-percent finance, free insurance and free servicing on certain models. This could mean that a buyer could trade in a 'banger' and drive away in a new Corsa for only £6,495 or own Meriva Energy on zero percent finance with monthly payments from just £170.55, for example. The incentives are available on the most fuel-efficient versions of Vauxhall's best selling small and family cars: the Corsa 1.0-litre petrol and 1.3 CDTi 75; Meriva 1.4-litre petrol and 1.3CDTi; Astra 1.4-litre petrol and 1.3CDTi and Zafira 1.6-litre petrol and 1.9CDTi 120PS.
